Arches Room
The Arches Room displays two sections of the Museum's collection: the Great Joanine Production, the apogee of the Baroque style and blue-on-white painting, named after King João V (r. 1706-1750), and the Rococo production (1750-1780).
Amongst the Great Production, we highlight the cropped panel depicting a Battle of Alexander of Macedon against Darius of Persia at Issus, a life-size male invitation figure and various religious-themed compositions, representative of the Church orders in the 18th century.
In the Rococo section, you can admire a chinoiserie with a central scene painted in manganese and a large panel representing The Four Seasons.
In this room, visitors will also find the so-called Pombaline patterns, used in the interior cladding of the buildings that emerged during the reconstruction of Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake.
